Dear Ghoulfriend,
My father is very controlling and he can't seem to get it through his head that I'm capable of running my own life and making my own choices (I'm 26). How can I make him understand that I need to choose my own path?

A controlling father? Shut up! All fathers have complete confidence in their offspring, respect their opinions and never question their decisions. They never treat their adult children as though they were still five years old. I don't know where you got your father, but you should consider asking for a refund -- or -- eat his arm.
I have amassed an impressive collection of recipes worthy of family members. Please get in touch if you decide to handle this problem the way I would (and did).
The problem with your father is that he doesn't trust his own ability to make good decisions and he is projecting his anxieties and insecurities onto you. Controlling people often lack control over their own lives and they seek power through the manipulation of others. Don't solicit approval for talent and originality from someone who expects you to follow only his agenda; you won't get it. I'd bet that when he was your age, your father was still living off his wife and/or parents and trying to "find himself," whereas you are forging ahead in the world, taking full responsibility for your own life. You could consider talking to him in a rational manner and hope that some insight will penetrate his thick skull, though frankly, I wouldn't bother. Your time and energy would be much better spent perusing my cookbooks and preparing your bar-b-cue pit.
What has your father done for you lately? Does he pay your bills? Does he help you in other, tangible ways? If not, you are well within your rights to eat him.
Remember this: I have faith that you will make the right choice, i.e. a rub made of assorted peppers and garlic, and a tangy, sparkling wine. Cheers!
