These three roosters are living in a vacant lot in Pittsburgh, PA, next to the school where I teach. The lot actually belongs to the school board, so erecting a chicken coop is out of the question. The roosters are in desperate need of a properly equipped home where they can live out their lives as pets. The city is no place for them, and they currently have no shelter available where they can escape the elements.

We have no idea how they came to live on our school grounds, but no one in the neighborhood (aside from our faculty) has been caring for them since last spring.

They are good-natured roosters. They get along very well with each other and they graciously tolerate the few of us who feed them. We've named them Rob, Chip and Ernie.

The pictures don't really do them justice. Two of the roosters are white with faint black spots, and the other is a beautiful golden color. If I can get better photos, I'll post them here.

We are all very concerned about their health and welfare, particularly now that the weather has gotten so cold. They're not lacking for food, but they desperately need shelter and a safe space to be roosters. Ideally, we'd like them to stay together, but we'll be happy if any one of them gets a proper home. We do NOT want these guys to end up on a dinner plate. They are PETS, and as one teacher put it yesterday, "they have become the soul of our school."

If you can give these roosters a home, please e-mail me at: kyra1@earthlink.net

Thank you.
